Info session on gerontology studies, careers set for March 2

Submitted by Jane P. Marshall

Approximately every 8 seconds someone in this country turns 65. With each new older adult come new opportunities for those prepared to work with them.

To help advisers interest students in the ever-expanding field of gerontology, the Center on Aging is sponsoring an information session from 1 to 2 p.m. Friday, March 2, in the Union Flint Hills Room.

In addition to snacks and socialization, the staff will provide material about the secondary major in gerontology and careers in aging. This secondary major can be combined with any primary major on campus and opens students to a variety of opportunities.

"It is important for students to have an understanding of aging regardless of their major," said center director Gayle Doll. "Recent graduates of our program say that having the secondary major in gerontology gave them a leg-up when applying to graduate school or for their current job. In uncertain economic times, the knowledge gained in this program will provide students with more career opportunities."

To attend, RSVP by Feb. 24 to pevans@k-state.edu or call 523-5945.
