Submitted by Communications and Marketing

The College of Human Ecology will present a public lecture by Australian Fulbright scholar Dr. Vinay S. Rane from 10-11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 20, in 256 Justin Hall. A coffee and tea reception will follow.

A forensic physician, lawyer and obstetric doctor, Rane is based in Queensland, Australia. He was named a Fulbright scholar for 2014-2015 and has been investigating the provision of obstetric services to disadvantaged women's groups. He is completing his research at the New York Department of Health, New York State University at Albany and the School of Public Health at Harvard University.

Rane's lecture is "Maternal Health: What Can Australia and the U.S. Learn From One Another?" He will look at current challenges facing health care delivery in Australia and whether interventions used in the U.S. could make a difference in Australia. It is free and the public is invited.

Rane completed concurrent degrees in medicine, surgery, forensic science, twin bachelor's and master's law programs, and a postgraduate degree in legal ethics at Monash University, and he earned a master's in health management from Griffith University. He gained fellowships with the Australian College-Legal Medicine and the Faculty of Forensic Medicine with the Royal College of Physicians in London while completing a Churchill Fellowship in forensic medicine and women's health.
