K-State geography students honored at regional meeting

Several students from the geography department were recognized for research excellence at the meeting of the Great Plains/Rocky Mountain Division of the Association of American Geographers, Oct. 2-3, in Kearney, Nebraska.

In graduate-level competitions, Thomas Larsen earned second place in the student paper category for his presentation, "Progress Report: Geo-Progressions and Sense of Community among Kansas Third Graders." Matthew Allen finished in second place in the poster category for his presentation, "Using GIS to Assess Flood Risk in Boulder County, Colorado."  

At the undergraduate level, Livia Cirnu, junior in geography, earned first place for her paper, "High Levels of Tropospheric Ozone linked to the Advection of Southerly Wind for the Konza Prairie in Kansas." Mitch Horner and Joseph Hunninghake, both seniors in geography, received second place for their paper, "Effects of the Rock Island Railroad on Kansas Towns."
