Resources available to help you promote K-State research

Dear faculty and staff,

As we strive to support our strategic plan, we must improve our ability to identify and explain our universitywide research strengths. As you are visiting with alumni, prospective industry partners, Kansas citizens and other interested parties about your colleges, departments or units, you have a great opportunity to talk about research strengths in other fields or about university research initiatives as a whole. We have had many campus conversations on this topic and have been able to converge on common themes. Armed with those great concepts, I have worked with communications staff in my office and the Division of Communications and Marketing to develop materials that can showcase our research strengths. I hope you will take advantage of the following resources.

  • Research Topics Web page: We've revamped this section of the Vice President for Research website to explain K-State's research strengths using a graphic that explains our areas of strength in research, scholarly, and creative activities and discovery, or RSCAD. RSCAD strengths are linked to press releases or other media that provide examples. Communications staff will update these links as new research achievements occur.
  • Research Handouts Web page: Visit this page to find a variety of one-page handouts about specific research projects or capabilities at K-State along with the RSCAD strengths graphic, a news release template and a sample news release formatted as a one-page handout.
  • Office of the Vice President for Research: Contact our office for help if you have specific needs for more handouts or for slides on K-State research strengths. Documentation technical writer Sarah Hancock, sarhan@ksu.edu, can provide assistance developing presentations and is happy to entertain ideas for new handouts. Our office also can provide small promotional cards about K-State research that make excellent leave-behind pieces for a variety of audiences.

Please use these materials and let us know if you have suggestions for improving them. And don't be afraid to start conversations about K-State RSCAD with everyone you meet!

Best,

Karen J.L. Burg
