Interior architecture & product design assistant professor to speak at Medical Design Conference

Submitted by Wendy Queal

Dustin Headley, assistant professor of interior architecture & product design in the College of Architecture, Planning & Design, will be a guest speaker at the 2015 Medical Design Conference on Oct. 21 at the Center for Advanced Medical Learning and Simulation in Tampa, Florida.

Headley will present "Engaging Empathy and Making: 3-D Printed Prosthetic Skins." He will cover the development and fabrication of an array of prosthetic skins for patients with leg amputations. Using his interest in bio-augmentation through 3-D printing, Headley and 27 students in his second-year undergraduate product design studio class at Kansas State University worked with clients who were leg amputees to design a cover or "skin" that could become part of their prosthetic. His presentation will feature the student project.

Headley will be one of several speakers presenting at the Medical Design Conference. The other speakers will focus on digital health, perspectives of the healthcare ecosystem, medical designs for the aging, differences in medical design for the developing world versus Western technology and the best practices in medical design.
