K-State faculty receive Fort Riley Distinguished Trooper awards

Submitted by Briana Goff

Senior leaders and spouses gathered on June 11 for the annual Victory Dinner, part of Victory Week at Fort Riley. Retired Gen. Carter Ham, who served as commander of the 1st Infantry Division from 2006 to 2007, including its return to Fort Riley, was the guest speaker.

Two K-State faculty, Briana Goff, School of Family Studies and Human Services, College of Human Ecology; and Daryl Youngman, K-State Libraries, were honored as Distinguished Troopers at the event for their support of the division and Fort Riley.

Since 2005, Youngman, associate professor, developed, led and participated in numerous endeavors that produced positive outcomes for many units, departments and commands at Fort Riley. His ongoing professional and personal goal is to develop and present K-State assets in programs that benefit the 1st Infantry Division and the Fort Riley community.

Goff is a professor and director of the Institute for the Health and Security of Military Families, School of Family Studies and Human Services. In the past decade, the demands on military members and their families have increased significantly, including multiple deployments for service members to two different theaters. In response, the Institute for the Health of Security of Military Families was launched in 2009. The work of the institute directly addresses the complex effects of wartime service on the long-term health and well-being of service members and their families.
