Kansas Forest Service names Jennifer Williams as first communications coordinator

Submitted by Jennifer G. Williams

The Kansas Forest Service has named Jennifer Williams as its communications coordinator. Williams will be the first person to occupy this role in the Kansas Forest Service.

"Jennifer Williams brings impressive communication and marketing skills to the Kansas Forest Service, which will increase the visibility of the agency and help Kansans understand the importance of trees in a state predominated by grass and cropland," said Bob Atchison, rural forestry coordinator with the Kansas Forest Service. "She is a very enthusiastic communicator with experiences that will advance the agency’s programs and Kansas State University."

Williams hails from Greenville, North Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Communication from East Carolina University. Her primary duties with the Kansas Forest Service will include marketing, managing social media content and campaigns, and furthering the agency’s mission of “care of natural resources and service to people through forestry.”

Established in 1887, the Kansas Forest Service is the nation’s fifth oldest state forestry agency. The Kansas Forest Service serves rural landowners, communities, rural fire districts, forest and arboriculture industries, and citizens of the state. This is accomplished through its conservation tree and shrub planting, fire management, community forestry, rural forestry, marketing and utilization, and forest health programs.

The agency is administratively attached to the horticulture, forestry and recreation resources department in the College of Agriculture.
