Psychology faculty, students present at national conference

The department of psychology was well represented at the recent annual meeting of the Society for Personality and Social Psychology in San Diego with a number of poster presentations.

Donald Saucier, associate professor of psychology; Mason Burns, May 2010 graduate; and Jessica McManus, doctoral student, presented "Honor beliefs and Masculine Courage: Real men don't back down."

Jennifer Cooper, senior; Russell Webster, doctoral student; and Saucier presented "Justifying prejudice towards pregnant women: Examining attitudes towards pregnant women on a college campus."

Cooper, Webster, and Saucier presented "Starters and closers: The effect of article placement on citation frequency in social/personality psychology journals."

Lea Folsom, senior; Brooke Williams, sophomore; Sara Smith, former master's student; Stuart Miller, doctoral student; and Saucier presented "Examining attitudes towards pregnant women on a college campus."

Jericho Hockett, doctoral student; Megan Strain, doctoral student; and Saucier presented "Rape myths, rape scripts and actual rape scenarios: Differences in how rape victims are perceived."

Melissa Klein, spring 2011 graduate; Strai; and Saucier presented "'That's terrible!': Sexist humor in social situations." 

McManus and Saucier presented "Social categorization and reactions to individuals with intellectual disabilities: An examination of appearance and identification factors."

Miller, McManus, Webster, Smith and Saucier presented "Personal and media contact as predictors of affective prejudice toward various outgroups."

Tammy Sonnentag, doctoral student; Strain; and Saucier presented "Relief and redemption: Undergraduates' responses to the death of Osama bin Laden."

Strain and Saucier presented "Sexist humor in Facebook profiles: Like or dislike@f0"

Webster and Saucier presented "Angels and demons are among us: Assessing people's beliefs in pure good and pure evil."
