K-State librarians present at American Library Association conference

Submitted by Sarah McGreer Hoyt

American Library Association conference

K-State Libraries were well-represented at the American Library Association conference in San Francisco, June 25-30.

Giving poster presentations:

  • Melia Fritch and Joelle Pitts, "Cleaning house: Using the LibGuides 2 migration to clean out the old and adopt the new."
  • Laura Bonella, Jason Coleman and Joelle Pitts, "One plan to rule them all: Attracting distance learners with a unified, multifaceted marketing plan."

Pitts also participated on a panel presentation, "Intentional Teaching Online: Using Instructional Design to Enhance Distance Library Instruction."

The Association for Library Collections & Technical Services — College and Research Libraries Interest Group invited two speakers to address the issue of open education resources, including the Libraries' Beth Turtle. Turtle presented on K-State's Open/Alternative Textbook Initiative, a program awarding stipends to faculty for the development of open alternatives to the traditional print textbook.

The annual conference is one of the largest professional conferences in existence. Programs and other events covered key issues such as the impact and potential of new technologies, teaching and learning and best practices on a range of library-related concerns.
