Awards event honors achievement in architectural engineering and construction science

Submitted by Mary Rankin

Four students in the architectural engineering and construction science management programs at Kansas State University were recognized for their overall abilities and achievements in course work and extracurricular activities at the department's annual awards program May 8.

Chosen jointly by faculty and fellow students, Collin Wheeler was named the Outstanding Senior in Architectural Engineering and Cody Croucher the Outstanding Senior in Construction Science and Management. Outstanding Underclassman in Architectural Engineering was awarded to Emily Garrison, and Outstanding Underclassman in Construction Science and Management to Jordan Heinen.

Alumni, scholarship donors and industry representatives attend the annual event to participate in the awards and celebration of the numerous accomplishments of students and faculty.

For the 2014-2015 academic year, the department awarded more than $210,000 in scholarships — ranging from $1,000 to $8,000 — to more than 70 students. In addition to those awarded through the university, more than 20 national and regional scholarships were announced at the awards program.

Several faculty awards also were presented, including professorships and endowed chair positions.

"It was a proud night of accomplishment and achievement for our students and faculty," said Ray Yunk, department head and professor of architectural engineering and construction science. "We can't thank our donors, alumni and corporate partners enough for making these awards possible."
