K-State police participating in Click It or Ticket campaign May 18-31

Submitted by Major Don Stubbings

Drivers can expect increased police presence on and around Kansas State University from Monday, May 18, through Sunday, May 31. The K-State Police Department will join almost 150 other law enforcement agencies in enforcing state of Kansas occupant restraint and other traffic laws as part of the 2015 Kansas Click It or Ticket traffic enforcement campaign.

This activity is supported by agency grants from the Kansas Department of Transportation, or KDOT.

Drivers can expect strict enforcement of both the Safety Belt Use Act and the Child Passenger Safety Act. The aim of Click It or Ticket is to drastically reduce the number of preventable deaths and injuries that occur when unbelted drivers and passengers are involved in traffic crashes.

According to KDOT, almost half of those killed in crashes each year on Kansas roads are not belted in. At the same time, fully 98 percent of crash occupants who suffer no injuries of any kind are belted in. And all for simply not taking the few moments necessary to buckle up themselves and ensure that their passengers are also secured.

"I want people to know that the K-State Police Department is committed the safety of the entire K-State community," said Ronnie Grice, assistant vice president of public safety.
