Local Rotary clubs award $500 scholarships to K-State international graduate students

Five students at Kansas State University have earned International Graduate Student Scholarships from the Konza and Manhattan Rotary clubs. This annual $500 scholarship is awarded to graduate students based on academic achievement, the benefit of graduate training to their country and financial need.

The 2015 scholarship recipients:

  • Prerana Dharnidharka, India, completing a doctorate in family studies and human services with an emphasis marriage and family therapy.
  • Songnian Zhao, China, working on a doctorate in industrial and manufacturing systems engineering.
  • Balabalaji Padavala, India, completing a doctorate in chemical engineering.
  • Dilooshi Weerasooriya, Sri Lanka, working on a doctorate in agronomy.
  • Arjun Kharel, Nepal, doctorate in the sociology, anthropology and social work department.

Rotary is a global organization of business and professional leaders with six areas of focus including peace and conflict resolution, disease prevention, water and sanitation, maternal and child health, literacy and economic development. Collectively Rotarians pursue humanitarian problems, among them the worldwide eradication of polio. The International Graduate Student Scholarship is one way the local clubs advance international peace and understanding and foster goodwill.
