Management Information Systems Club elects new officers for the 2015-2016 academic year

Submitted by Michael Chilton

On May 4, the Management Information Systems Club had its final meeting of the 2014-2015 school year.

During the meeting, the club membership elected new officers for the 2015-2016 school year. Anne Feldkamp was elected president, Andrew Franchett was elected vice president, Derek Cox as treasurer, Olivia Englert as secretary, and Paige Lauer and Karla Wasinger will share the position of public relations officer.

The membership expressed its thanks to the outgoing officers, Cecilia Lehmann, president; Anne Feldkamp, vice president; Jacob Kipp, secretary; Jacklyn Long, treasurer; Andrew Franchett, public relations; and Chris Havenstein, chief information officer, for the wonderful work that they have done during the past year.

This year the club had several activities, guest speakers and a new project to help benefit the club. Last fall, the club hosted the Management Information Systems Club Social to allow current club members and employers to share information about available jobs and student qualifications for those jobs. In February, 16 club members attended a field trip to Denver, Colorado, to visit with prospective employers. The club's president, Lehmann, was able to secure full funding for the trip from the Professional Advantage program, which is administered by the College of Business Administration.

Guest speakers scheduled to speak at the club's monthly meetings included representatives from Deloitte, Hallmark Cards, H&R Block, Perceptive Software, Cerner, Netsmart, and ConocoPhillips. Some club members, under the direction of Austin Heiman, constructed a membership attendance tracking system. This system allowed members to swipe their student ID cards at each meeting so that participation could be determined. These data were instrumental in determining scholarship awards presented by the club.
