Revised Sponsored Project Transmittal Sheet facilitates multidisciplinary collaboration

Submitted by Karen J.L. Burg

Dear Faculty and Staff,

As we work to support the efforts of K-State researchers, we are striving to improve processes related to sponsored research and development expenditures.

Our Research Infrastructure Task Force and focus group reports indicated that the expenditure credit process was an administrative burden and did not encourage multidisciplinary collaboration. In response, we have created an alternative method facilitated through a revised Sponsored Project Transmittal Sheet. The revised process captures each investigator's contribution to the overall project effort, or E%, and easily accommodates multiple investigators and departments. This new procedure also is responsive to requests for data regarding individual faculty contributions on multidisciplinary efforts.

The revised form is available through the eProposal/eSign electronic proposal routing system, as well as through the PreAward Services Forms website.

Units engaged in multidepartment and college activities will retain the opportunity to request multiple accounts or accounting departments but will not be required to do so to receive expenditure credit. A guide to completing the revised form is available at the PreAward Services forms website, and current policy information is available at our policies website.

Many thanks to Paul Lowe, Shannon Fisher and the staff in PreAward Services for their attention to refining this process. We welcome your comments after you have had the opportunity to review the new Transmittal Sheet and its instructions. Please submit comments or requests for training to research@k-state.edu.

Best,

Karen J.L. Burg, vice president for research
