A nationally known expert in business ethics education has been appointed to the Edgerley family chair in business administration at Kansas State University.

Diane Swanson, professor of management in the College of Business Administration, is chair of the ethics education initiative in the college. Her work has been cited by national media and she is a frequent guest speaker at national ethics forums and seminars.

"We are extremely gratified to appoint Dr. Swanson to this chair," said Ali Malekzadeh, Edgerley family dean of the College of Business Administration. "Her outstanding record of research at the national and international level has brought prominence to the college for years."

As part of her duties, Swanson will work to develop the reputation of the college on a national level.

"Dr. Swanson has achieved a national reputation for her work enhancing ethics education in the College of Business Administration. This appointment recognizes her outstanding achievements," said April Mason, provost and senior vice president at Kansas State University.

Swanson's work has helped the college earn a spot in the top 100 of the Aspen Institute's Beyond Grey Pinstripes for the past two ranking cycles.

"I am honored and thankful to hold the Edgerley family chair in business administration. Our college is especially lucky to have benefactors who care passionately about our students, as the Edgerley family does. I am proud to be part of this important tradition," Swanson said.

Her appointment begins July 1.

Swanson's areas of teaching and research include business ethics, legal and social issues in management and business, and community relations. Her research topics include executive compensation, corporate citizenship and value-based leadership.

Her research has been published in the Academy of Management Review, Business & Society, Human Relations, the Oxford University Press Handbook of Corporate Social Responsibility and more. She has served on several journal editorial boards, and is often quoted in academic publications as well as the news media.

The Edgerley family chair in business administration was previously held by Jeffrey Katz, former associate dean and director of graduate studies in the college.
