Greed meets its match in university theater production of 'The Madwoman of Chaillot'

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

A satiric fable of good triumphing over evil and beauty over destruction will kick off the spring semester presentations by the Kansas State University theater program.

K-State Theatre will present "The Madwoman of Chaillot" at 7:30 p.m. Feb. 2-4 and Feb. 9-11, with a matinee performance at 2:30 p.m. Feb. 12. All performances are in Nichols Theater.

Written in 1943 by Jean Giraudoux, "The Madwoman of Chaillot" follows the Prospector, the President and the Baron of Paris as they make plans to dig up the city in order to reap the benefits of the city's oil. When Countess Aurelia hears of their plans, she teams up with her fellow outcasts to stop them. In this tale, the aging idealist battles it out with the crooked executives to preserve her world.

The K-State production is directed by Kate Anderson, associate professor of theater, and lighting design is by John Uthoff, associate professor of theater.

Tickets cost $8 to $14, with a variety of discounts available for university students, faculty and staff, seniors and military families. They can be purchased at the McCain Auditorium box office from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or by calling 785-532-6428 during box office hours. Tickets also may be purchased at the Little Theater box office in the K-State Student Union from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday through Friday. Groups of 10 or more may receive a discount rate.
