Jefferson Fellow distinguished lecturer Bruce Conn to present seminar

Submitted by John Ruberson

Dr. Bruce Conn

David Bruce Conn, a Jefferson Fellow and dean of the School of Mathematical and Natural Sciences at Berry College, will present a universitywide lecture at 4 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the K-State Alumni Center's Ballroom Banquet C.

The title of his seminar is "The Roles of Insects and Molluscs in the Epidemiology of Zoonotic Pathogens in Diverse Ecosystems." His seminar will address the important area of animal-spread diseases, such as West Nile virus, Lyme disease, dengue, and malaria, which, according to the Centers for Disease Control, account for about three out of five new human sicknesses. Conn's visit and lecture are sponsored by the Office of the President and hosted by the entomology department.

Conn's visit and seminar are part of the Jefferson Science Fellows Distinguished Lecture Series that will bring four Jefferson Fellows to campus each year. Jefferson Fellows are tenured academic scientists and engineers from U.S. higher education institutions who spend a year working with the U.S. State Department or U.S. Agency for International Development, providing up-to-date expertise in the science, technology, engineering and medical areas that influence policy decisions.
