Legislative update: Legislature adjourns, will reconvene April 29

Submitted by Sue Peterson

The Kansas Legislature adjourned the 2015 session on Friday, April 3. The Legislature will reconvene and plan to return April 29 for the Legislative Veto Session. During the Veto Session, the Legislature will address budget and revenue issues. In addition, there are still a number of bills pending which could also be addressed during the session.

Last week the House/Senate Budget Conference Committee continued negotiations on the Fiscal Year 15, 16 and 17 budgets. A proposal to freeze tuition was made and discussed. There are serious ramifications for state universities and Kansas State University with this proposal. Please see the recent letter from President Kirk Schulz on Friday regarding the tuition freeze proposal.
