Diversity Programs Office update

By Zelia Wiley

The Diversity Programs Office has had a few accomplishments so far this semester.

The Diversity Programs Office and the Kansas State Minorities in Agriculture, Natural Resources and Related Sciences, or MANRRS, chapter partnered to send nine students to the 30th annual MANRRS Career Fair and Training National Conference March 25-29 in Houston, Texas. The 2015 K-State MANRRS Chapter delegation included nine student members who competed in a number of contests and participated in the career fair and exhibit hall. The student delegation was accompanied by advisors Zelia Wiley and Derris Burnett. At last year's conference, Taneysha Howard, senior in agricultural communications and journalism, placed first in the national conference theme contest for her entry, "Thirty Years of Triumph: Branching Out and Excelling to Greater Heights," which was featured on all conference items this year. Additionally, at this year's conference, Adriana Meneses, freshmen in animal sciences and industry, won a prize from participating in an on-site contest.

On Friday, April 3, the national Gay, Lesbian & Straight Education Network, or GLSEN, will present to our GENAG 210: Human and Cultural Diversity in Agriculture course at 10:30 a.m. in 350 Waters Hall. All students, faculty and staff are welcome to attend this informative and enjoyable session. This award-winning, nonprofit organization has been visiting colleges across K-State's campus this week. If you have questions regarding the network's visit, please contact Amanda Morales in the College of Education at morales@k-state.edu.

Please continue to look for more diversity events as we continue to advertise. We appreciate your support. For more information about upcoming events or to collaborate with the Diversity Programs Office, please call 785-532-5793 or contact Zelia Wiley, assistant dean of diversity, at zwiley@k-state.edu.
