Kansas Board of Regents March 11 meeting university updates

The monthly Kansas Board of Regents meeting on March 11 included several items related to Kansas State University.
President Kirk Schulz gave an update on the U.S. News & World report Best Graduate Schools ranking, which listed the university as improved in three colleges — two of which received an increase in financial support by the Kansas Legislature last year.
Students' Advisory Committee
Student body president Reagan Kays gave the Students' Advisory Committee report. He discussed its proposed non-academic misconduct notation policy, which the Students' Advisory Committee would like the Governance Committee to review.
Legislative update
Matt Casey, KBOR director of government relations, provided an update on the board's legislative initiatives, including sexual assault, budget concerns and the recent general fund allotment that reduced higher education state general funds.
Fiscal Affairs & Audit
The Regents approved amendments to the FY 2015 Capital Improvement Plan and Rehabilitation and Repair Projects. The changes that affect K-State include:
- Constructing a waste transfer facility
- Relocating the Purebred Beef Unit on the Manhattan campus
- Repairing the steam distribution tunnels
- Removing updates to Nichols Hall
The Regents approved the purchase of an office building in the Manhattan Corporate Technology Park, next to the Library annex. The building will be financed from restricted fees cash balances in administration and finance. The building will be a temporary location for the College of Architecture Planning & Design faculty, staff and students affected by the Seaton Court renovation scheduled to begin this summer. The Regents approved a resolution to finance expansion of the existing Chilled Water Plant.
Academic affairs
The Regents approved revisions to Kansas State University's procedure for review of dismissal of tenured faculty. The procedure is part of the University Handbook.
