Yes Means Yes UFM course

Submitted by Clara Kientz

Yes Means Yes

Yes Means Yes, a six-week course beginning March 24 from 4-6:30 p.m. every Tuesday, encourages honest discussion about healthy relationships, sexual conflicts and societal expectations concerning sex. Led by K-State staff and graduate students, this free seminar gives students the opportunity to engage in thoughtful conversations, interactive case studies and critical discussions intended to promote a healthy sexual climate on campus.

Students will be asked to explore issues of sexuality and attraction, define the "hook-up" culture, and analyze how privileges and identities influence societal expectations. Students will be given the opportunity to reflect on their identities, relationships and intimate interactions in an attempt to destigmatize conversations about sex, sexuality and pleasure. Topics will include sex, pleasure, bystander intervention, consent, combating sexual violence and the ways that different identities interact with sex and sexuality.

The course provides action steps, tips and resources for students to utilize positive sexuality techniques. Modeled off a similar course taught at Colgate University and based off "Yes Means Yes!: Visions of Female Power and A Word Without Rape," the seminar attempts to promote a healthy sexual climate and transform the culture to become a knowledgeable and acceptable atmosphere for all students.
