Dallas Peterson, K-State Research and Extension professor of agronomy and weed management specialist, has assumed the 2015 presidency of the Weed Science Society of America.

The society is an organization that fosters an awareness of weeds and their impact on our environment. It provides science-based information to the public and government policymakers while promoting research, education and outreach activities. Founded in 1956, the society has approximately 2,000 members from around the world. Members include academic, governmental and private industry research scientists, students and educators, extension educators, and federal, state, county, and private land managers.

Peterson joined the agronomy faculty at K-State in 1989. Originally from a farm in north central Kansas, he received his bachelor's and master's degrees at K-State. He received his doctorate from North Dakota State University in 1987, and served as extension weed specialist for two years at North Dakota State University before coming to K-State.
