Governor's State of the State Address, appropriations for K-State

Gov. Sam Brownback presented his State of the State Address to a joint session of the Kansas House of Representatives and Kansas Senate on Thursday, Jan. 15.

The governor's detailed budget rollout will be presented to the House Appropriations and Senate Ways and Means Committee by Budget Director Shawn Sullivan. Additional details will be released later today.

A brief update for Kansas State University:

  • No budget cuts for Fiscal Years 2015, 2016 and 2017
  • No targeted enhancements for universities for Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017
  • Continued funding in Fiscal Years 2016 and 2017
    — $5 million base funding for College of Veterinary Medicine
    — $5 million for Global Food Systems initiatives
    — $5 million for research initiatives related to NBAF
    — $3.5 million for University Engineering Initiative Act
