Reduced university activity during 2014-2015 holiday season

Submitted by Cindy Bontrager

The end of the fall semester is quickly approaching and here is a reminder to faculty and staff of the university activity during the holiday break. The university will close its normal operations beginning all day on Wednesday, Dec. 24 through Friday, Jan. 2, 2015, and will reopen for business Monday, Jan. 5, 2015. Full-time employees have been awarded holiday credit as follows for the official observed state holidays:

  • Dec. 24: Four hours holiday credit.
  • Dec. 25: Eight hours holiday credit.
  • Dec. 26: Eight hours holiday credit.
  • Jan. 1, 2015: Eight hours holiday credit.

Holiday credit eligibility depends on the employee’s normal schedule. On Dec. 24, a nonexempt benefit eligible employee will be awarded holiday credit based on half the number of hours he or she normally works. An exempt benefit eligible employee will receive holiday credit based on half of his or her FTE. Employees should use the appropriate type of leave as outlined in the November holiday letter for the normal workdays affected during the university closure: Dec. 24 half day, Dec. 29, Dec. 30, Dec. 31 and Jan. 2.

Additional questions about university closures during the 2014-2015 holiday season can be directed to Tara Pfaff at tarap@k-state.edu, 785-532-6226, in the vice president for administration and finance office.

Human Capital Services has created a holiday information/scenarios document to assist department liaisons coordinating time and leave.
