2011 Little Apple Jazz Festival lineup announced

Don’t miss the 2011 Little Apple Jazz Festival! The festival will begin at 5 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the Larry Norvell Band Shell in City Park. There is no cost to attend the festival. It is sponsored in part by the K-State Student Union Program Council.

Headlining is international recording artist C.J. Manning, a regular performer in Manhattan, and an all-star band performing with vocalist Lesli Lane.

  • 5-6 p.m.                        K.C. Youth Jazz Band
  • 6-6:30 p.m.                   Barefoot Dixieland Band
  • 6:30-7 p.m.                   Kelly McCarty Band
  • 7-8 p.m.                        Pablo Sanhueza Latin Jazz Trio
  • 8-9 p.m.                        Steven Richard Band
  • 9-9:30 p.m.                   Swing Machine, a K-State jazz combo
  • 9:30-10:45 p.m.            C.J. Manning and Company

The festival also includes food vendors, a family-friendly area featuring the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art; Morale, Welfare and Recreation displays; displays and animals from the Sunset Zoo; crafts and activities from UFM and the Manhattan Arts Center; Willie Wildcat; as well as artist CD sales and more. In case of rain, the music moves inside to the Jon and Ruth Ann Wefald Pavilion.

The free annual festival is part of the city’s Arts in the Park series and is a collaborative effort between the Manhattan Parks and Recreation Department, the K-State Student Union Program Council and Fort Riley’s Morale, Welfare and Recreation. Other sponsors are the Dow Chemical Multicultural Resource Center, Ag Press Commercial Printing, Holiday Inn at the Campus and Varney’s Book Store.
