Monday Marketing Minute: Crisis planning

Submitted by Jeff Morris, vice president for communications and marketing

The recent shooting incident at Florida State University serves as a troubling reminder that the unthinkable can happen anywhere. There are steps each of us can take to help ensure the safety of our university community.

First, make sure that you and those around you are signed up for K-State Alerts. You can access the alerts sign-up website from various places, including the Connect page, the Campus Safety link at the bottom of the K-State home page or by logging directly into your eProfile.

Second, you can download the new K-State LiveSafe application for your mobile device through iTunes or Google Play. The new app contains many features specific to the Manhattan and Salina campuses, including an emergency 911 dialer. This app is provided free of charge by the Office of Student Life, Student Governing Association and the K-State Police Department.

To be prepared for events we hope never happen, we conduct training exercises and update crisis communication plans frequently. Please help us make K-State as safe as possible and don't hesitate to send any suggestions or thoughts to me at jbmorris@k-state.edu.
