Hagenmaier, Jackson receive awards from University Professional and Continuing Education Association

Submitted by Rosanna Vail

Two Kansas State University Global Campus employees have received awards from the University Professional and Continuing Education Association.

Debbie Hagenmaier, assistant director of conferences and noncredit programs, has received the 2014 Central Region John L. Christopher Outstanding Leadership Award, and Ron Jackson, program coordinator, has received the 2014 Central Region Professional Continuing Educator Award.

The awards presentation was Oct. 22-24 at the association's Central Region conference in Denver, Colorado.

The John L. Christopher Outstanding Leadership Award is given to a current professional member of the association who has exhibited outstanding leadership and service within the central region. Criteria include committee activity, conference activity, promotion of the association at the institutional, state and regional levels and commitment to adult and continuing education.

Hagenmaier provides leadership and support for K-State conferences services, including coordination and management of annual conference and noncredit activities for the College of Agriculture, K-State Research and Extension and other university and external partners.

As assistant director, Hagenmaier also provides staff development for program coordinators within the conferences and noncredit programs unit. She ensures that new and seasoned staff members continue to grow and be challenged within their roles.

"Debbie Hagenmaier is a very valued team member from the conferences and noncredit programs unit at Kansas State University," said Jeff Wolfe, director of the unit. "She is a strong team leader who has earned the respect of those who work with her on a daily basis within K-State Global Campus and from her colleagues across campus who have benefited from her skills while coordinating successful conferences."

In addition to her responsibilities and activities in the K-State community, Hagenmaier has served as a leader in association's central region. She has been secretary and chair-elect and currently serves as chair for the association. She also has served on the planning committee for the association's Central Region Conference.

Hagenmaier is active in promoting continuing education. She is a member of the Association of Collegiate Conference and Events Directors and of K-State's Center for Engagement and Community Development Advisory Board.

The Continuing Educator Award recognizes the scholarship, leadership and contributions of a continuing educator who has entered the profession in the last five to 10 years. Jackson has served as a program coordinator for K-State Global Campus since 2007. He coordinates College of Business Administration distance education programs and online bachelor's degree completion programs.

As a program coordinator, Jackson is a strong advocate for providing educational programs to those who are unable to come to campus. He has played a key role in the development of the bachelor's degree completion and the 2+2 programs that K-State offers with community colleges. He also was instrumental in the development and marketing of K-State's online Professional Master of Business Administration degree. Recently, Jackson partnered with another program coordinator within K-State Global Campus to launch a successful new marketing initiative for Evening College, intersession and online courses called On Track.

"Ron is quite deserving of this award," said Lynda Spire, assistant dean of K-State Global Campus. "He is dedicated to those adult learners who wish to complete degrees in a nontraditional manner. He works with campus administrators and faculty to ensure that needed courses and programs are available and that students receive assistance to make their success possible."

Jackson is currently working on a collaborative effort with six academic units to develop a graduate certificate in data analytics.
