Division of Human Capital Services announces appointments

Submitted by Cheryl Johnson

In August, the Division of Human Capital Services informed the K-State community of an organizational realignment that will allow for more nimble and improved responsiveness to customers. This more streamlined organization includes in its structure a director of the resource center and operations and director of employee relations.

Alma Deutsch is the newly appointed resource center and operations director. Deutsch is an alumna of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Science in business administration. She has served the university for 24 years.

As the director, Deutsch is charged with providing strategic direction, leadership, planning, project coordination and management in order to provide cost-effective service delivery of human capital systems. Working collaboratively with the Division of Human Capital Services team and stakeholders, Deutsch will develop and implement solutions that transform the university and propel the organization to the attainment of K-State 2025.

Charlotte Self has been appointed director of employee relations, effective Nov. 17. Self currently serves as the human resource director for the K-State Student Union. In addition to this leadership role, she also has served as the president of the Human Resource Management Network.

As the director of employee relations, Self is charged with development, planning and deployment of processes and systems that help foster a high performing, fully engaged workforce. Self will provide day-to-day consultation, mediation, facilitation and guidance regarding employee relations and engagement issues across K-State. She is tasked with collaborating with stakeholders to address issues that arise from climate surveys, exit interviews and focus groups. Self also will be responsible for developing metrics that measure the pulse of the organization and provide leading indicators that help the organization proactively develop solutions to increase and sustain a fully engaged workforce.

The Division of Human Capital Services would like to thank Jennifer Gehrt, who is transferring to information technology's project management office effective Nov. 3. Gehrt will contribute as an interim project manager and will be able to call on her experience as the former director of the LASER project. We thank Gehrt for her contributions and wish her well in her new assignment.
