Hossain named to visiting professorship at Malaysian university

By Mary Rankin

Mustaque Hossain, Munger professor of civil engineering, has been appointed a visiting professor of civil engineering at Universiti Teknologi-MARA, Shah Alam, Malaysia, for 2014-2016. He served in the same capacity at this university in 2007-2009, having first spent time there while a Fulbright scholar at another Malaysian institution, Universiti Putra Malaysia, in 2003.

The appointment requests that Hossain spend two weeks on the Universiti Teknologi-MARA campus each of the two years during summers or when class is in session. He will take part in a variety of roles, including graduate student mentoring, review of undergraduate and graduate curriculum and doctoral preliminary examination, and help in research proposal and journal manuscript preparation. He also will be available for continuous advice, as well as reviewing various research plans, research results and course syllabi throughout the period.

"I am pleased to have opportunity to accept this appointment again," Hossain said. "Both myself and Kansas State University are highly respected there."

Tangible outcomes from his last two-year appointment included development of a two-day workshop, two journal publications and one conference proceedings publication.
