Distinguished professor of chemical engineering, L.T. Fan, dies at age 84

L.T. Fan, university distinguished professor and Mark H. and Margaret Hulings chair in engineering, died Aug. 4, three days short of his 85th birthday. Fan had proudly worked for Kansas State University since 1958, passing through the ranks from instructor, assistant professor, associate professor and professor. He served as head of the department of chemical engineering for 30 years, from 1968 to 1998. A prolific researcher and author, Fan published more than 600 journal articles and reports, held 27 patents, and had just completed his eighth book, covering a wide range of chemical engineering topics. He was the adviser to 55 doctoratal and 79 master's students. A generous supporter of K-State, he and his family established the L.T. Fan Lecture Series, a premier series hosting the world's most prestigious chemical engineers.
