Personal financial planning junior awarded $5,000 scholarship

Submitted by Jane P. Marshall

Mariah Bausch, a junior in personal financial planning, received a $5,000 TD Ameritrade Institutional NextGen Financial Planning Scholarship at ceremonies recently in New York where she and nine other scholarship winners were guests at the New York Stock Exchange.

Bausch is co-president of the student chapter of Financial Planning Association at K-State.

TD Ameritrade runs the scholarship and grant program to encourage more students to pursue a degree — and career — in personal financial planning to avert a talent shortage in the future. The job growth rate for financial advisers is expected to be 32 percent by 2020, more than double the rate for other occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

The personal financial planning program in the School of Family Studies and Human Services, College of Human Ecology, offers bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees and a graduate certificate in financial therapy.
