Alfonso-Durruty publishes book on childhood among prehistoric groups

By Marta Alfonso-Durruty

Marta Alfonso-Durruty, professor of sociology, anthropology and social work, and her colleagues have published a book on childhood among prehistoric groups. The book, "Tracing Childhood: Bioarchaeological Investigations of Early Lives in Antiquity," is part of the "Bioarcheological Interpretation of the Human Past: Local, Regional and Global Perspectives" of the University Press of Florida.

This book has been regarded as: "A richly integrative, masterful biocultural approach to childhood in the past, in which social science theory and historical, archaeological and ethnographic details converse with quantitative paleopathology and demography," according to Michael Blakey, The College of William and Mary. "These studies are an excellent inauguration of a field of study concerned with humanizing skeletons of a universally valuable, resilient, and transcendent class of people."
