Professor, former Army officer to discuss leadership, self-development in lecture

Effective leadership will be the topic of a lecture by Fred Luthans for Kansas State University's Center for Character-Based Leadership Speaker Series.

Luthans will present "Evidence-Based Positivity for Effective Leadership and Self-Development" at 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5, in the Town Hall Room at the Leadership Studies Building. The lecture is free and open to the public. It's sponsored by the Center for Character-Based Leadership and the College of Business Administration.

Luthans is the George Holmes Distinguished Professor of Management and a university distinguished professor at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. He also is a senior research scientist with the Gallup Organization. His experience includes serving as an officer in the U.S. Army and teaching leadership at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. A former president of the Academy of Management, Luthans is a fellow of the Decision Sciences Institute, the Academy of Management and the Pan Pacific Association. He currently is an editor of the Journal of World Business, Organizational Dynamics and the Journal of Leadership and Organization Studies.

He is the author of several books and numerous research articles on organizational behavior modification, positive organizational behavior and psychological capital. He has been named one of the all-time top five authors of both the Academy of Management Journal and the Academy of Management Review.
