Teresa Schmidt is 2011 Friends of the Beach Museum Gift Print Artist

Submitted by Bethany Bohn

Teresa Schmidt, professor of art and the 2011 Friends of the Beach Museum Gift Print Artist, will present an Artist's Talk at 4:30 p.m. Thursday, April 28, in the Beach Museum's auditorium.

Schmidt, who teaches printmaking and drawing at K-State, is known for her highly expressive, large-scale drawings in graphite and related intaglio and lithographic prints. Most of her work draws its energy from the landscape, the figure and everyday objects. Schmidt says her graphite drawings respond to "nature, time and intimacy." Drawing, she says, "brings to my life a heightened sense of the now…the reality that we are alive right this second."

The talk is in conjunction with the "Teresa Schmidt: 2011 Friends of the Beach Museum Gift Print Artist" exhibition, which is on display through Aug. 28. The exhibition features around 20 of her works, including her gift print for the Friends of the Beach Museum.

This exhibition is sponsored by the Friends of the Beach Museum of Art Business Partners.

Schmidt received her bachelor's and master's degrees from Central Washington University, Ellenburg. She earned her master of fine arts from Washington State University, Pullman. She has also taught in Washington state, Arbroath, Scotland, and Norwich, England, and lectured in several states. Her work has been included in numerous solo and group exhibitions and reproduced in several publications, including by Torry Dickinson, K-State professor of women's studies.
