UFM technology classes for spring 2014: iPad, Lightroom, cybersecurity and more

Low-cost technology classes are available to K-Staters from the UFM Community Learning Center, a creative educational program serving Kansas State University, the Manhattan area and the state of Kansas.

Based on the philosophy that everyone can learn and everyone can teach, UFM provides opportunities for lifelong learning and personal development.

Class descriptions below are from www.tryufm.org. Visit the website to get more details, see many other kinds of classes and register for technology classes that include:

  • Introduction to Adobe Lightroom, series; starts Tuesday, Jan. 28 — This class will cover an introduction to the software program Adobe Lightroom, which is part of the Photoshop family of programs.
  • Snap, Create & Share: iPad for Photos, Tuesday, Feb. 25, — Explore apps for taking and editing photos and creating collages and scrapbooks to share with family and friends. Bring your iPad or use one from the Wamego Technology Center.
  • Lights, Camera, Action: Creating Movies with an iPad, Tuesday, March 4 — Explore your filmmaking skills and see how easy it is to make short movies to share with family and friends. Bring your iPad or use one from the Wamego Technology Center.
  • Introduction to Digital Photography: The Basics, series, starts Thursday, April 3 — This class will focus on the basic concepts of photography and using your camera.
  • Computer Skills 101, two series; first one starts Tuesday, March 4; second one starts Tuesday, April 15 — This orientation to computers is ideal for those who have had little exposure to computers.
  • Cyber Security: It Affects You, Too!, date to be announced — Do you know how to stay safe on the Internet? This course is for anyone with little or no cybersecurity experience and teaches important concepts and technology that every Internet user should know. In this class, you will learn about many different threats, antivirus programs, firewalls, anti-spyware, identity theft, Phishing, how to create strong passwords and more.
