Mathematics Colloquium lecture Nov. 12

Submitted by Reta McDermott

Adam Fuller, University of Nebraska, Lincoln, will present "From Dynamical Systems to Operator Algebras and Back" as part of the mathematics department Colloquium lecture series at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 12, in 122 Cardwell Hall.

The abstract for the lecture is:
Operator algebras created from dynamical systems have a long history, almost as old as the theory of operator algebras itself. We use this as a gateway into the theory. In this talk we will discuss introduce the audience to some key ideas in the theory of nonself-adjoint operator algebras, and then apply them to study a class of operator algebras created from a dynamical system. We will then discuss what properties of a dynamical system we can see from its corresponding operator algebra and vice versa. The new results in this talk come from joint work with Davidson and Kakariadis.
