Reminder: NCAA Self-Study feedback welcome at March 29 meeting

Submitted by Katie Mayes

The campus community and general public are invited to review the NCAA self-study reports and bring any questions, input or feedback to an open campus meeting at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 29, in the Hemisphere Room of Hale Library.

Draft reports from each subcommittee are posted for review at www.k-state.edu/ncaacert.

K-State is undergoing a Cycle 3 NCAA certification self-study. The process is an opportunity for K-State to critically examine the strengths, weaknesses and opportunities related to the welfare of student-athletes, and to ensure that our athletics program is continuing the tradition of operating in close cooperation with the university's overall goals.

Campus feedback will be incorporated into the report and submitted to the steering committee for final review. The report coordinator will submit the final report to the NCAA on April 29. In September 2011 a peer review team will visit campus for an evaluation site visit. In April 2012 after receiving recommendations from the peer review team and upon review of our self-study report, the NCAA will release the final certification decision.

The self-study helps ensure the integrity of the institution's athletics operation. K-State's first self-study was completed in 1995-1996 and the second in 2001-2002. In 2002 K-State received certification without any conditions, which is the highest level of certification awarded.

The meeting also will be live streamed at www.k-state.edu/ncaacert, and questions can be submitted in advance or during the meeting by e-mailing them to ncaacert@k-state.edu.
