David Sousa headlines the How the Brain Learns symposium.

Submitted by Jana Fallin

David Sousa, author of the book "How the Brain Learns," spent yesterday on campus presenting information to the K-State brain scholars. More than 280 faculty and staff from all the colleges at K-State have been reading Sousa's book, attending study groups and special presentations, all about how the brain learns.

Provost April Mason provided grant funding for this yearlong event, which supported the purchase of books for interested faculty members and underwrote this symposium, along with the Teaching and Learning Center at K-State .

These faculty members engaged in the year of the brain events gathered yesterday at the Alumni Center to hear Sousa, participate in focus groups, share a lunch and discuss future plans for infusing brain-learning into K-State courses. Grants of $3,000 to $5,000 will be available from the Teaching and Learning Center at K-State for faculty interested in conducting research on teaching and learning in their courses.

The goal is for every K-State student to leave our campus with an understanding of how the brain learns. The planning committee included Jana Fallin, Steve Thien, Jane Fishback, Kim Williams and Cathie Lavis.
