Sept. 27: What's in a Blog? (Kevin Champion)
If such key phrases as "web 2.0" or the "democritization
of the internet" are appropriate for our internet lexicon circa 2007,
then blogging must be a part of the conversation that got us here. This
talk explores the concept of the blog in real examples, from creating a
blog, to basic blogging, to expanding the definition of what a blog is.
From community portal, to dynamic database, to collaborative organizer,
along the way we will find out that a blog is not just a "web log"
anymore. d

interaction to existing courses. The virtual classroom includes tools such
as streaming audio and video, application sharing, chat, whiteboard, polls
and surveys, 508 accessibility, and archives, and is especially useful for
adding a human touch to online courses.
Oct. 18: Case Study: Using Technology in KSU Classroom (Arlo Biere, Department of Agricultural Economics)
Professor Biere first used technology in undergraduate teaching in 1973, a commodity-futures trading game using punch cards on the mainframe. He was instrumental in the design of K-State’s first “Harvard style classroom” with technology. As the teacher for Applied Agribusiness Logistics, a distance Master of Agribusiness course, he has used K-State Online every winter since 1998. Two years ago he participated in a College of Agriculture seminar series studying the book, Brain-Based Learning by Eric Jensen.
Professor Biere’s presentation will review his technology-in-the-classroom experience, discuss what worked and what did not work and why, explore his current thought on technology for instruction with millennial students that addresses long-term learning outcomes. Of specific concern is the role of technology in today’s learning environment that stresses active learning.
