U.S. Patents:

Chemical solvent compositions for various cleaning applications.

TADAC Reference Number:  T03-04

This patent bundle consists of chemical solvent compositions for various cleaning applications including general solvent cleaning, vapor degreasing, cold cleaning, electronics cleaning and dewatering.  These solvents provide stable, effective alternatives to chlorofluorocarbons and other harmful chemicals.  The patents can be separated into the following five categories:  n-bromopropane azeotropes and blends, HCFC-225 azeotropes and azetrope-like blends, new hydrofluorocarbon structures, fluorinated surfactants, and a vapor degreasing apparatus.

Applications:

-Blowing agents
-
De-fluxing and cold cleaning of printed circuit boards
-
Dry cleaning
-
Engine and system cleaning
-
Hard surface cleaning
-Imparting soil repellency to fabrics

-
Industrial use where solvents must be non-flammable and chemically inert
-Oxygen system cleaning
-Particle removal from parts and components
-Refrigeration and flushing
-Removal of water or aqueous films from the surface of substrates
-Removal of water where hot air drying is too expensive or time consuming
-Stain and contaminant removal
-Ultrasound cleaning of complex metal parts, electronic components, implantable prosthetic devices and optical equipment
-Vapor degreasing

Advantages:

The bromopropane, HCFC-225 and HFC structures offer constant composition during boiling, they dry cleanly, leave no residue, are non-flammable, and have low toxicity and low ozone depletion potential.  Other benefits include:

-Reduced global warning potential
-Azeotrope-like compositions remain liquid at room temperature.
