K-State Exchanges
Justus Liebig University - Giessen
This is one of K-State’s longest standing exchange agreements. Classes are available in nearly all the subjects available at Kansas State, ranging from agriculture and geology to family and consumer sciences and nutrition. Classes are in German, so students will need at least an intermediate level of German. K-State students pay tuition, fees, room, and board to KSU on this program. Special scholarships administered through the Department of Modern Languages can make this an extremely low-cost option. Giessen is a lively university town near Frankfurt.
Ludwig-Maximilians University - Munich
Spend a semester in the city of Oktoberfest, the largest festival in the world. Munich is a beautiful, historic city with an active cultural scene. Travel around Munich, and you’ll find enchanting castles, sparkling lakes, and charming villages. LMU offers a very wide range of classes taught in German. K-State students pay tuition, fees, room, and board to KSU. In the summer, LMU offers a special program in European Studies that takes place in Munich, Berlin, and Prague. The summer program may include a German language option if desired.MBA students can take classes in English at one of the best business schools in Germany and learn German at the same time, if they wish. Students will pay tuition and fees to Kansas State. The university also offers a summer program on doing business in the European Union. Leipzig, with a population of half a million, is a major center of trade and culture, and offers beautiful buildings, fascinating museums, and an active nightlife.
Classes in Interior Architecture are offered in English at both of these universities, each located in a small city with a population similar to Manhattan’s. Coburg is a lovely town whose medieval, winding streets are filled with half-timbered houses and Art Nouveau buildings. Students may spend the weekends hiking in the nearby countryside or traveling to other cities in Europe. Trier is the oldest city in Germany – it still has Roman ruins! Very close to Luxembourg and France, Trier makes an excellent site for traveling if students tire of exploring the vineyards and rivers surrounding the city. Students will pay tuition and fees to Kansas State.
Frankfurt (population 65,000) is located on the charming Oder River that separates Germany from Poland. It is about 60 miles away from Berlin and is not to be confused with the other city of Frankfurt in Western Germany. Viadrina University is very international and offers courses in English that include Corporate Finance, Microeconomics, and International Business Law. MBA students can also take graduate classes through this exchange. Students will pay tuition and fees to Kansas State.
Zeppelin University is nestled on the shores of Lake Constance, a large, freshwater lake that borders Switzerland, Austria, and Germany. The Alps are close by as are countless vineyards. This recently-founded, private university specializes in management, economics, and communications. Nearly all professors speak English fluently, and many classes are offered in English. Students will pay tuition and fees to K-State.
