How to choose a study abroad program

Whether you are just starting to think of study abroad as a possibility, or know exactly where you want to go and what you want to study, we're here to help.

Congratulations on taking the first step towards a once in a lifetime international experience through the KSU Study Abroad Office. The steps outlined on this page will help guide you through the process of choosing and applying to a KSU study abroad program, so get started and good luck!

  1. Stop by Fairchild 304 for walk-in peer advising. This is the first step toward making your international experience a reality.  Then, attend study abroad information sessions about earning credits on your program, financial aid & scholarships, and health & safety.

  2. Create an Advising Application here. This is absolutely free and the process takes just a few seconds.  Once you have created an Advising Application, you will have access to helpful information on the website, and you will be able to receive occasional updates from the Study Abroad Office relevant to your plans to study abroad.

  3. Complete the KSU Study Abroad Interest Form inside your Advising Application.  This will help the Study Abroad Office guide you to the study abroad program that best suits your needs.

  4. Do a self-evaluation which will help you think about various factors contributing to your decision to study abroad.
    • What are your goals in studying abroad?
    • What classes would you like to take?
    • When would you like to go abroad?
    • Do you have a particular destination in mind?
    • What is your financial budget?
    • Would you like to learn a new language?
Only you can decide what kind of program will meet YOUR special needs and interests!

  5. Search for study abroad programs on the Study Abroad Office website. There are many programs available, but which one is right for you?

  6. Schedule a session with your study abroad advisor. When you are ready to talk about some of your options, make an appointment with the appropriate member of the study abroad staff by calling the office at 532-5990.

  7. Apply for your program!  Go to the information page for the program you've selected and click the "Apply Now" button to login and begin your application. Be sure to carefully follow the directions provided and complete all required application materials.
