Class work is assessed by the professor teaching the course which may be based on in-class exams, written papers, projects and/or attendance. This is variable and depends on the professor. Grading scales can be curved or on an absolute scale as determined by the professor.
Course registration will be completed at Orientation & Enrollment on the Thursday of International Student Orientation Week, prior to the beginning of the semester. At this time, pre-enrollment is not possible. During Orientation & Enrollment, students are assigned an academic advisor and select courses from published "Directory of Courses" that list all university courses offered in a particular semester. The Course Schedule, a list of courses taught each term, is available on our website at http://courses.k-state.edu/schedules.html
The exchange program allows for students to enroll in 12 to 15 undergraduate credit hours. Students are responsible for paying for any hours beyond 15. A minimum of 12 hours is required for full-time status.
Additionally, students enrolling in any Division of Continuing Education (DCE), on-line, or UFM Community Learning Center courses may be assessed additional fees outside of the regular tuition and fees structure, which will be the responsibility of the student.
Number of classes a typical student takes per term: 4-5
Number of hours per week typical student spends in class: 12-15
Number of weeks per term: 15
Once the student is on campus, the student can have his/her advisor write a special letter or email and send it to Scott Schlender in the Graduate School, requesting that the student be allowed to take graduate level courses. Please be aware, that the student will be allowed to take no more than nine graduate credit level courses. The student would also need to fill out the "special enrollment access request form," which is located on the Graduate School web site at http://www.k-state.edu/grad/forms/sec/career.html
Students generally apply for either an F-1 or J-1 visa, and the visa type preference should be indicated on the exchange application. More information on F-1 or J-1 visas, as well as an explanation of the differences between the two, can be found at http://www.k-state.edu/isss/current/index.html
