KAD BOARD AWARDS FOUR SCHOLARSHIPS
At the 2008 Awards Banquet held on the KSU campus in Manhattan, four Decathletes were singled out to receive scholarships for their outstanding work and participation on their teams. These scholarships are made possible from the continued participation and support to Kansas Academic Decathlon by sponsorship from USA FUNDS.
This year’s winners will receive monies to be sent to their enrolling colleges to help with tuition. The $500.00 winners were Scott Olinger and Katrina Kutchko from Shawnee Mission South with the highest scores in the Varsity and Honors divisions. $1,000.00 was earned by SMSouth senior,Kevin Able, as the student with the highest overall competition score. Good luck to these three students as they take their team to nationals in California representing Kansas.
A special $500.00 scholarship was awarded to Tenille Hunter, a senior at Bishop Ward high school. Ms. Hunter earned the honor of being chosen the 2008 Outstanding Senior Leader. Her coach, Mary Lane, wrote in her recommendation of the many personal challenges Tenille had made to be a dynamic part of her team through all four years. Way to go Tenille!
KAD is proud of all these fine decathletes and wish them well in their future academic pursuits.
