Student Crisis Services
The Office of Student Life (OSL) helps students accurately assess their situations, provides information, and teaches the skills students need to navigate crises.
OSL provides a number of services to assist students with medical and personal emergencies and in the event of hospitalization.
To access these services, students or their families should consult the Office of Student Life, 102 Holton Hall at 785-532-6432 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, or e-mail email@example.com.
In case of emergency, OSL staff may be contacted outside of office hours through the K-State Police Department at 785-532-6412.
Personal counseling referrals
Students sometimes need additional help to make choices about academics. The OSL can help students explore options and refer them to other campus or community resources.
Financial Advising Referrals
Students with financial concerns might benefit from confidential financial advising from Powercat Financial Counseling. They can help students with budgeting, debt management, credit concerns, identity theft, and reviewing insurance and employee benefits.
OSL staff can serve as a student advocate, assisting with a grade grievance when a student receives a grade they believe is in error, or in any situation where the student needs support or advocacy.
Notification of instructors
The Office of Student Life can notify the student’s instructors or college dean’s office about student circumstances when the student is not able to because of medical or serious personal concerns. These email notices are based on documentation from the student's health care provider or other authority.
Students are responsible for making arrangements with their instructors regarding missed course work. Academic accommodations are made at the discretion of the instructor.
Call the Office of Student Life at 785-532-6432, or email firstname.lastname@example.org for information about this service and documentation requirements.
Family support and communication
In the case of a family emergency or death, the OSL can serve as a liaison between the family and the university. OSL staff can notify appropriate persons regarding crisis situations.Withdrawing from K-State
Some students find that due to the length of a medical recovery or missed classes due to a personal crisis, they are unable to catch up in their classes. In these cases students may decide to withdraw from school. The OSL can help students with referrals as well as provide information about returning to K-State.
