Crisis Assistance

Student Crisis Services

The Office of Student Life (OSL) at K-State provides a number of services to assist students with medical and personal emergencies and in the event of hospitalization. To access these services, students or their families should notify the Office of Student Life, 102 Holton Hall at 785-532-6432 between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday or via e-mail at stulife@k-state.edu.

OSL staff may be contacted after office hours through the K-State Police Department at 785-532-6412.

Notification of instructors

The Office of Student Life can notify the student’s college dean’s office in case of absences due to medical or serious personal concerns. Students are responsible for contacting individual instructors to arrange make-up work.

Instructors have the discretion to determine if an absence is excused and whether or not students will be able to make up work or exams.

Personal counseling referrals

The Office of Student Life can help arrange counseling support through K-State Counseling Services and Alcohol and Other Drug Education Services.

Academic support

Students sometimes need additional help in making decisions about academics. The OSL can help students problem solve and refer them to other campus or community resources.

OSL staff can serve as a student advocate, assisting with a grade grievance, when a student receives a grade they believe is in error.

OSL is an excellent resource for any type of question or concern.

Withdrawing from K-State

Some students find that due to the length of a medical recovery or missed classes due to a personal crisis, they are unable to catch up in their classes. In these cases students may decide to withdraw from school. The OSL can help students with referrals as well as provide information about returning to K-State.

Assistance in contacting and coordinating family needs

In the case of a family emergency or death, the OSL can serve as a liaison between the family and the university. OSL staff can notify appropriate persons regarding crisis situations.

Hospitalization and serious illness

The OSL staff can provide assistance when a student is hospitalized or may miss classes due to illness.
