Course information beginning Fall 2008

for all sections of Stat 325 & Stat 350

Stat 325

Text: Basic Practice of Statistics, 4th edition, Author: David Moore

We are suggesting that students buy internet access to the electronic version of the book (eBook), but they may buy the printed version instead if they wish. To purchase access to the eBook, you may buy an access code at Varneys bookstore or you may go directly to the publisher's web site to buy it (http://ebooks.bfwpub.com/bps4e.php). If you prefer the printed version, you may purchase it at Varneys or from an online bookstore like amazon.com.

Stat 350

Text: Statistics for Business and Economics, 10th edition
    Authors: Anderson, Sweeney, and Williams

Starting in the fall semester of 2008 all sections of Statistics 350
will use an online homework system developed by Aplia.  Students in
this course will have two options for purchasing their textbook and
course materials (prices cited are for purchase through Aplia at
www.aplia.com) :

Option 1. Purchase an online copy of the textbook and access to online homework. The online text will be available in a .pdf format. Students will be able to print desired portions of it, but will NOT be able to save it to disk. (total of $70, an additional $70 for Statistics 351).

Option 2. Purchase a hard copy of the textbook and access to online homework. ($140 plus shipping and handling for the book and $35 for the online homework, an additional $35 dollars for the online homework for Statistics 351).

Important details:

 i. Whichever option is chosen must be purchased from either Aplia or Varney's bookstore. Pricing from Varney's is not yet available, but will likely be higher than the prices from Aplia. These materials are *not* available from other distributors (Amazon, for example.)

ii. If you already have a copy of the textbook (or purchased it elsewhere), you will still have to purchase one of the two options. You will not be able to purchase only the online homework.

iii. Every student will have to individually purchase either option 1 or option 2. It is not possible to share the online homework or book.

iv. If you choose option 2, you will also have access to the online book.

v. For both options, the online book cannot be downloaded, but it can be printed (in whole or in sections) at any time.

vi. After the semester ends, the online book will no longer be available.

vii. After purchase, the online book and homework (for both options) are available immediately. You can wait until the first day of class to purchase your materials if you are uncertain about the procedure or your choices.

viii. When registering on the Aplia website use your K-State eID and e-mail address.

ix. In order to purchase either option 1 or option 2 from Aplia, you will need a course code. These codes will be available soon, and will be posted at this site.
