The Department of Statistics at Statclub Homepage

Welcome to the Statistics Club Homepage

The Statistics Club is an organization whose purpose is to involve students in the discipline of statistics. The club sponsors speakers who discuss using statistics in practice and give advice on succeeding in the working world. The club has also taken on projects to raise money to help support students who travel to local and national statistical meetings.

In addition, the club coordinates the department's activities at the annual university open house, assists with the Conference on Applied Statistics in Agriculture, and organizes social functions for the department, including fall and spring picnics and the annual Christmas party.

All undergraduate and graduate students in the department are invited to take part in the club's activities.

Officers are (2007 - 2008):

Newsflash!  During the 2008 Open House the Stat Club ran a "Count the Beans" contest.  Contestants had to guess the number of black beans in the jar.  The 'Grand Prize' winner was selected at random from the total correct entries submittted.

Drum roll pleeeeezzzeee..... and this year's winner is Ward Morgan with the correct guess of 1000 black beans.  Your 'Super Duper' prize awaits your pick-up in our main office.

Congratulations Ward !!!

Several hundred current and prospective students attended  this year's Open House and stopped by the Statistics table to chat. Professors and students volunteering their time had numerous opportunities to talk statistics with people of different ages and backgrounds. Many guests asked questions about the contest which allowed us to explain various elements of sampling and estimating that may not have come up on their own.
• Thanks to the following people for volunteering their time in order to spread the joy that is statistics: Dr. Nelson, Lin Xie, Yun Wu, Dr. Yang, Kumary, Eugene Yankovskyy, Molly Hort,Narmita Berry, Dr. Jager, Lixia Fan (who was not only very enthusiastic, but spent 2 hours
helping), Dr. Murray, Dr. Wang, Dr. Song, and Shannon Dick.
• An extra thanks to Shannon for helping set up, for counting all the beans, for organizing the activity, and for designing the t-shirts!
