Faculty Search: Tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor, Department of Statistics, Kansas State University

The Department of Statistics at Kansas State University is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-assistant or associate professor beginning Fall, 2009.  The position offers flexibility in terms of whether it is a 9 month or a 12 month appointment.  The 12 month appointment will include a consulting responsibility with departments across the campus.

Qualifications include a Ph.D. in statistics or in related area by August, 2009, with PhD dissertation research in statistics or biostatistics, and evidence of potential for high quality research.  Duties will include teaching both upper level undergraduate and graduate courses and direction of M.S. and Ph.D research.  For candidates at the Associate Professor level, a record of extramural funding and professional service is desirable.  Applicants with research interests in any area of statistics are encouraged to apply, but the Department has special interest in someone with a  background in high-dimensional data, sampling, Resampling, computational statistics, generalized linear models, consulting, or other areas that complement the current strengths of the faculty.  The Department strongly encourages applications from women and minorities and persons who are committed to working with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds.

The Department has 12 full-time faculty positions with research interests covering a wide range of topics both in theory and application.  Ample opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in biology, the engineering and physical sciences, nutrition and kinesiology, agricultural sciences and other departments across campus.  Research opportunities are enhanced by the existence of multi-disciplinary research institutes and centers, such as the ecological Genomics Institute, the Kansas Lipidomics Research Center, and the Konza Prairie Biological Station.  The department values and encourages collaborative research.  The annual Applied Statistics in Agriculture Conference, now in its 21st year, boasts outstanding keynote speakers and each year draws over 100 participants from around the country.  The department was founded in 1959 and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D.  The majority of the graduate students are supported with  teaching assistantships.

Kansas State University has approximately 23,000 students from all 50 states and 90 countries.  The University is located in Manhattan, Kansas.  The "Little Apple" is a classic college town with a zoo, 21 parks, and a recreation trail that circles the city.  Manhattan is also home to exciting Big XII sports, excellent restaurants, and outdoor recreation.  Located in the rolling hills of Kansas and edging the Kansas River, Manhattan is situated 9 miles north of Interstate 70, 125 miles west of Kansas City.
