The Department of Statistics at Kansas State University is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track assistant professor beginning Fall, 2010. Qualifications include a Ph.D. in statistics or in a related area by August, 2010, with PhD dissertation research in statistics or biostatistics. Duties will include teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, research, and directing M.S. and Ph.D students. Applicants with research interests in any area of statistics will be considered, but the Department has special interest in someone with an interest in statistical education and in the delivery of statistics education via course offerings at the undergraduate level and through distance offerings. Such a person would supervise graduate teaching assistants and coordinate multiple sections of undergraduate statistics courses, as well as researching and developing novel approaches for the delivery of statistics education. Also of particular interest is someone with statistical consulting experience and an interest in consulting with graduate students and faculty from across the campus. The Department strongly encourages applications from women and minorities and persons who are committed to working with students and faculty of diverse backgrounds.
The Department has 13 full-time faculty positions with research interests covering a wide range of topics both in theory and application. Ample opportunities exist for collaboration with faculty in education, biology, the engineering and physical sciences, nutrition and kinesiology, agricultural sciences and other departments across campus. Research opportunities for faculty as well as students are enhanced by the existence of multi-disciplinary research institutes and centers, such as the Ecological Genomics Institute, the Kansas Lipidomics Research Center, and the Konza Prairie Biological Station. The Department values and encourages collaborative research.
The Department’s annual Applied Statistics in Agriculture Conference, now in its 22nd year, boasts outstanding keynote speakers and each year draws over 100 participants from around the country. The department was founded in 1959 and offers B.S., M.S., and Ph.D. degrees. Currently there are about 60 graduate students, about half of whom are working toward a Ph.D. The majority of graduate students are supported with teaching assistantships.
